History of The Entertainer

The Toy Shop is the online arm of The Entertainer toy retailer, founded in 1981 by husband and wife team Gary and Catherine Grant who opened a toy shop in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

Four years later the couple opened their second shop and six years later their third. After this, the company underwent massive expansion. The Entertainer currently has 103 shops in the UK, making it the UK's biggest independent toy retailer, and stocks thousands of products online. Over 900 people are employed in its stores and 100 at the head office.

The Toy Shop offers many of the leading toy brands for children of all ages, including Peppa Pig, Barbie, Disney, Lego and Star Wars.

Unusually, The Toy Shop does not open on Sundays, a reflection of the faith of owner Gary Grant who is a self-professed 'charismatic evangelical' Christian. It is also why certain toys are not stocked, such as Harry Potter products which are deemed to be linked to the occult.

The Toy Shop has a charitable wing, The Grant Foundation, which receives a tenth of the company's profits and which supports foundations such as The Toybox Charity.

In 2011 the company introduced Pennies, a digital charity box, which allows customers to add a small amount, 1p to 99p, to their bill and donate the change.

Opening Times

Toy Shop stores are open from Monday to Saturday (closed on Sundays) from 9am to 5.30pm, with some branches staying open for a further half hour. Branches are open on bank holidays but opening hours may vary. Check your local store online for details.

You can contact customer services online from 8am until 8pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. Emails will be responded to within 24 hours.

Delivery Information

The Toy Shop offers four delivery choices when you shop online. These are: standard delivery of three to five days, Monday to Friday, which costs £2.99 for orders less than £40 and is free for orders over £40, and express delivery, which promises next day delivery if you order before 7pm, Monday to Friday, and which costs £4.99 - UK mainland only.

You can also opt for Shutl same day delivery which costs £7.99 and which can take as little as 90 minutes from your local store. This is only available for certain postcodes and is subject to stock availability. You'll find out exactly how long your delivery will take at the checkout.

Or you can choose Click and Collect, Monday to Saturday, during store opening times from your local branch. This can take as little as 30 minutes or one to three working days if stock is unavailable.

Returns Policy

The Toy Shop's returns policy means you can shop with confidence. It will accept any unwanted item within 28 days, providing all packaging is intact so that the product is in a resaleable condition and you are able to provide valid proof of purchase.

The cost of returning an unwanted item will be met by the buyer. Gift cards are non-returnable. You can return an unwanted item to your local store or print off a returns label from the website.
