History of Moonpig
Moonpig.com has transformed the greeting card industry with its fresh, fun and innovative way to create and buy greeting cards for your loved ones. Rather than popping a generic birthday card in the post, Moonpig allows you to go online and customise one, thereby creating a totally unique card for that totally unique person. The simple website makes it easy to make and send your own creation, even for real technophobes, and the concept has unsurprisingly proved incredibly popular.
Moonpig.com was started in 2000 by entrepreneur Nick Jenkins after he realised the potential in combining the early digital printing technology with the internet and the - at the time - rather stale greeting card industry. Over the last 15 years, the company has grown beyond all recognition, and recently has started selling card and gifts in the United States and Australia. Furthermore, it is the largest personalised greeting cards company in the world. Bought by Photobox in 2011, it remains based in London while its ever-growing range of cards is produced in and posted from Guernsey.
The Moonpig Foundation was set up in 2010 in order to find and support key projects in the UK and elsewhere. It has been working with charity XLP since 2010 to support its aim to create positive futures for young people living in the inner city, and tackle the challenges faced by disadvantaged young people. Moonpig has also been working with World Vision for several years, and the Moonpig Foundation has sponsored 60 children on behalf of the company's staff. Every two years, staff members visit Uganda to meet the children and report back on their progress
Brands
Moonpig stocks ranges from many of the UK's leading card publishers, including Paperlink, Disney, The Great British Card Company, Ling Design, Carte Blanche Greetings, Quitting Hollywood and Last Lemon, as well as many smaller publishers and designers.
Departments
Moonpig's departments are cards, flowers and gifts.
Moonpig has expanded its range hugely since its early days. It has thousands of cards available to customise, and offers designs from many of the UK's leading card publishers, and the ways in which customise can adapt, add, and personalise their cards are extremely varied. Uploading photos to cards is a particularly popular feature of the site.
Moonpig offers a wide range of flower bouquets that can be sent by courier or first class post, and gifts have also become a huge part of Moonpig's offerings. Mugs, soft toys, T-shirts, beauty gifts, wall art, and balloons are among the presents that can be bought and often personalised. Drink-based gifts are always popular, and Moonpig offers a wide variety, ranging from (personalised) Champagne gift boxes, to whisky collections, and port and Stilton gift sets. Prices for these gifts range from around £20 to £45. Gift hampers offered by the website include the likes of Breakfast in Bed (which comes with coffee, tea, jam, orange juice, Champagne and granola) and A Close Shave (which features some luxurious grooming products for the discerning gentleman).
Buying your cards and gifts through Moonpig.com can be both thoughtful and affordable. Voucher codes, cashback and discount codes can also often be found online to use on this website, which makes it even more wallet-friendly.
Opening Times
Moonpig is an online-only retailer with no physical stores. Cards ordered on public holidays will be sent out on the next working day.
Delivery Information
Cards ordered before 2pm during the week are sent out the same day, with orders after 2pm being posted the following day.
All orders, except flowers, wines, spirits, canvas and acrylics, are posted first class. According to Royal Mail, 90% of first class post will reach the recipient the next day, but - particularly at busy times - it may take longer. Moonpig advises that, where possible, customers leave three working days for delivery. First class post for a standard card costs from 62p, or from 95p for a larger card.
Returns Policy
Customers who are not satisfied with their Moonpig purchase are advised to contact their customer service team. To return faulty cards or gifts, customers should send them back within three days of receipt to a freepost address available from the customer service team. If customers are eligible for a refund, Moonpig will reimburse the price paid onto the credit or debit card used to pay for the purchase. It is worth noting that refunds cannot be given if the fault is a result of the customer's own actions.
Security & Reviews
Security is an important priority for Moonpig.com. The site is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 and uses the most up-to-date technology in order to protect personal details. Furthermore, it doesn't store credit card numbers to reduce the risk of computer fraud. Online reviews of the site are generally positive, with reviewers praising how easy it is to use and the quality of the cards.
