History of Staples

The weekend of Independence Day in 1985 is where it all started for Staples. Their founder, Tom Stemberg, could not locate a replacement typewriter ribbon at nearby stores, and decided an office supply department store would be the solution! The first store, located in Brighton, Massachusetts, paved the way for success. Staples has centred on a wide selection of office supplies, at affordable prices, and in accessible locations. Today, Staples is one of the biggest office supply retailers worldwide, with over 2,000 stores in 26 countries.

Staples opened its first store in the UK in 1993, and now has 112 stores nationwide. The brand launched their first website in 1998, and Staples.co.uk is now available as the online interface for the UK market, offering products to all private and business customers.

Staples has always led the way in office supplies, highlighting that they have anything that their customers may need. Staples' advertising slogans through the years of “Yeah, we've got that” and “that was easy” show they have pioneered the availability of all kinds of office supplies. In 2014, Staples has made a new promise to their customers, pledging that they will help “make more happen”. Opening Times

Staples.co.uk provide their customers with four ways to shop! The brand has 112 stores nationwide. Store opening times differ from store to store; however generally stores are open at the following times: Monday - Friday - 08:00-20:00 Saturday - 09:00-18:00 Sunday - 10:00-16:00

Due to their large size, most stores can be found on retail parks, and may be open later than the high street. You can also place an order by phone on 0333 300 1334 up until 7pm.

Staples' website is available all year round, and also has a mobile optimised version of their website. The brand also has a Smartphone app, to assist you with your shopping! You can also €˜click & collect', if you would prefer to pick the item up from your nearby store, instead of home delivery.

Delivery Information

Providing that you order before 7pm, Staples offer next working day delivery, free of charge, for all orders over £30 (excluding VAT), to the mainland UK. If your order is below £30, postage rates are calculated during checkout. All ‘click & collect' orders offer free delivery, so it may be worthwhile buying online, and collecting in-store for extra savings!

Please note that next day delivery is not offered on furniture orders, and delivery of these products could take up to four weeks.

Returns Policy

If for any reason you're not satisfied with your purchase, you may telephone Staples to arrange collection of any unwanted items, free of charge, so long as they are in a resalable condition. A charge may be incurred if this is not the case! You have seven days to arrange a free collection, and 30 days to arrange a collection for £3.50. For a 1.85% charge (up to a maximum of £2.40), you can extend the free returns offer up to a one year period.

Security & Reviews

Staples.co.uk states that they are committed to making their website secure for their customers. They follow strict guidelines relating to maintenance and data storage, to prevent unauthorised access. Trustpilot reviews are poor; however, most negative comments relate to specific problems regarding shipping or receiving an item, and not to unauthorised access.
