History Of RSPB

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) was founded in 1889 by Emily Williamson. Concerned about the fashion industry's impact on bird populations, particularly the use of feathers in clothing, Williamson gathered a group of women who shared her concern. Initially called the Plumage League, the organization advocated against the destruction of birds for fashion. The group later merged with other bird protection societies to form the RSPB. Over the years, it grew into the UK’s largest wildlife conservation charity, dedicated to protecting birds and their habitats through direct action, advocacy, and raising public awareness.
