History of Pavers

Catherine Paver founded Pavers Shoes in York in 1971, in a bid to provide comfortable and stylish shoes that fitted well and were available at affordable prices. Paver initially began the business by running shoe parties at which she sold off old clearance stock from shoe catalogues that she purchased with a small bank loan. The first Pavers stores opened shortly afterwards in Scarborough, York, Hull and then Newcastle, and the first Pavers outlet was established in 1996 at Royal Quays in North Shields.

In 2000 a sister company was set up to trade footwear online, and it was the amalgamation of this company with Pavers that led to Pavers establishing its own successful online trading presence.

In 2007 Cathy Paver was awarded a Drapers Footwear lifetime achievement award in recognition of her success in the footwear retail field. Paver has also continually directed her efforts towards fundraising as well as growing her business and in 2006 the company raised more than £45,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care via a limited edition design promotion.

International expansion began in 2008 with the launch of a new business venture in Chennai, India, while back on home soil in the UK further expansion continues to take place, with new stores being opened alongside a further drive to promote Pavers' online shoe sales.

Pavers Shoes is now recognised as a leading UK retailer of comfort footwear for men and women and has more than 115 stores and outlets across the UK and Ireland, as well as its well-established online presence and catalogue shopping service. The business is still run by the Pavers family out of its head office in York, with Cathy's son Stuart currently the company's managing director.

Opening times

Store opening times differ from store to store, with some located within department stores and some opening at later times, such as those in retail parks or late night shopping centres. However, generally Pavers stores are open at the following times:

Monday to Saturday: 10.00 - 18.00Sundays: 11.00 - 17.00

Delivery Information

UK standard delivery has a lead time of up to 5 working days and is free of charge for orders more than £50, or it costs £2.99 per order below £50 in value. Deliveries are made via Royal Mail, Monday to Saturday. Free delivery is also available into selected stores, with a delivery time of up to 5 working days. Customers are notified when the goods arrive in store by phone, text or email, depending on the preferences they have selected when initially placing their order.

Returns Policy

Returns of unwanted resaleable items can be made up to 14 days after receipt of the item. Returns into store are free, while items returned via the Post Office or via Collect+ will incur a charge unless they are Returns Paid items.

UK Returns Paid is an option available on all items for an additional cost of 99p per item, which means that returns can be made quickly and easily using an enclosed pre-paid returns slip. If UK Returns Paid is not selected, any returns that are made will incur a £2.50 postage charge.

Exclusions to the Pavers returns policy include items such as insoles, arch supports, tights, socks and any opened sealed packaged items. Pavers aims to process any refunds within a maximum of 3 days of receipt of the returned item.

Security & Reviews

Pavers takes online security seriously and is an Equifax and 3D Secure verified site, supported by the latest SSL encryption systems. This gives customers peace of mind regarding protection of personal and payment data during the checkout process and also regarding protection against loss of payment in the case of non-delivery. Payments can also be made via PayPal, offering an additional level of ease of use and payment protection for those with PayPal accounts.
