History Of Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds was founded by Marie Tussaud, a French artist known for her wax sculptures. Born in Strasbourg in 1761, Marie learned the art of wax modeling from Dr. Philippe Curtius, a physician skilled in wax modelling. In 1777, she created her first wax figure, Jean-Jacques Rousseau. During the French Revolution, she created death masks of notable figures such as Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. In 1802, Marie moved to London and toured her collection around the UK for 33 years. In 1835, she established her first permanent exhibition on Baker Street. Madame Tussauds has since expanded globally, with locations in major cities worldwide.
