Inspired by the colours, prints and fabrics of her English countryside upbringing in Hampshire, England, founder and creator Cath Kidston set up her classic brand of the same name back in 1993. Her idea to create fabrics, accessories and interior design products based on her classic English heritage and give them a twist started as a small independent business and has now become a worldwide powerful brand, selling a variety of products across all fields. Credited as the creator of modern vintage, Cath's designs were always on the cutting edge, and still maintain a quirky, niche feel that is hugely popular among fashionistas and interior designers today.
Her first store opened near Holland Park and Notting Hill, London, in 1993, and using vintage fabric finds and her very first print (Rose Bouquet), Cath stocked the shop with unique cushion covers, ironing board covers and cotton bags. Everything she sold was practical but oozed clever design and original vintage chic. After selling her designs and accessories in other reputable UK stores throughout London and south-east England, Cath extended her collections from floral-based prints to spots and stars and introduced new products, including her famous shopping bag and mugs. Now, the brand is bigger than ever, with 59 Cath Kidston stores in the UK and Ireland alone, and a further 54 stores worldwide, including Japan, Spain, Hong Kong and Thailand.
In 2015, the company celebrated 20 years as successful brand and recognised their achievements, with 50% of British women between the age of 16 and 65 aware of the cheery, fun and quirky designs and products that are unique to Cath Kidston. The brand also broke £100 million of sales in 2015, and became one of the most successful British brands ever.
From high quality home furnishings to fashion items and accessories, Cath Kidston's website now offers everything that makes the British brand so special. While Cath Kidston no longer owns the brand, she still has creative control, and knows how to tap into the designs and products that women want.
Both in-store and online offer the following departments:
Each store's opening times vary throughout the UK, some outlets and retail stores will open later and close later for example (particularly Central London store, which have later opening times), but most have the following standard hours:
Cath Kidston offers a number of delivery options on their site, for standard delivery orders under £40 shipping will cost £3.95 in the UK and will arrive in five working days. For orders over £40 delivery is free within the UK, and will also take five working days. The website also offers next working day delivery (providing goods are ordered before 3.30pm the day before) for £7.95 in the UK (this doesn't include weekends or bank holidays). You can also opt to collect your items from a store local to you, and specify a delivery date online. The store will hold your order for 10 days after the specified date, and you must bring your order confirmation when you do decide to collect your order. Cath Kidston also offers worldwide shipping for varying fees depending on the country.
All products ordered online come with a returns form included in the package, and can be returned within 28 days of purchase as long as it is in the original condition. Cath Kidston recommends that you obtain a proof of postage if you do need to send a return, in case something happens to the parcel, and postage is not included. If you live close to a store you can also return items bought in a store to a shop, but online orders cannot be refunded in store. If your item arrives damaged or faulty, Cath Kidston will refund the postage for up to £10 in the UK, and £20 for the rest of the world. If crockery arrives damaged, you can email a photo of the damaged product as proof and are not expected to return the product to the store. Cath Kidston do not offer refunds on underwear, earrings, toiletries, swimwear, or manicure sets for hygiene reasons, nor can they offer refunds or exchanges on cut lengths of fabrics.
Cath Kidston implement various security measures online and offline to ensure the protection of your personal information. Many of the reviews cited on TrustPilot rated the customer service of the online store, while some dissatisfied customers claim to have experienced bad customer service after receiving faulty items. Faulty items are inevitable when ordering things like crockery online, however, as per Cath Kidston's returns policy, if a valid photo can be provided a new item will be sent out as a replacement.
